ISO Certification

Overview

ISO stands for International Organization for Standardization. It is a non-governmental and independent organisation for international standard development comprising of representatives from the national standards organizations of member countries. IT was founded on 23 February 1947 and as of April 2024 it has published over 26,500 international standards covering almost all aspects of technology and manufacturing. It has over 810 technical committees (TCs) and subcommittees (SCs) to take care of standards development. It’s headquarter is situated in Geneva, Switzerland.

ISO certification is a stamp of authenticity from a third party body that an organization’s affairs and operations are as per the international standards developed and published by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). It creates a sense of trust among customers. ISO certification provides standard set of values for specified products or technology and companies are bound to follow the same to protect themselves from violation.

Process of ISO certification in India

  • The very first step for an entrepreneur is to select the ISO standard and the certifying body
  • The next step is to make an application in prescribed form mentioning the details like rights and obligations of entrepreneur, certification body parties and includes liability issues, confidentiality, and access rights.
  • Basis the above application, ISO certification body shall review the standard set of process, policies and procedures followed by the organisation as part of quality review
  • The management has to present an action plan to eliminate the gaps if any found during the above review by ISO certification body
  • After the suggested changes are made by the organisation, ISO registrar shall conduct a physical inspection by visiting the premise where the operations are carried on. The objective of this audit is to find anything that does not meet with the requirements of the ISO standards.
  • A final audit is conducted to verify whether all significant nonconformities are closed and same is verified by the Registrar. Once registrar is satisfied that all significant conformities are closed, He grants the ISO certification.
